Berry Plastics Plans Expansion at Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Berry Plastics Corp. plans to add 115 jobs in Evansville this year as it expands operations in the Ohio River city.

Officials of the Evansville-based company said Tuesday they plan to invest about $33 million on the expansion. It comes about a year-and-a-half after a previous $150 million expansion of its manufacturing operations in Evansville.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Berry up to $800,000 in tax credits contingent on job creation. City and county officials authorized additional incentives.

Berry Plastics has about 80 plants worldwide, producing a wide range of plastic packaging products including bottles, drink cups, trash bags and prescription drug containers. The company says it has about 1,800 employees in Indiana and about 15,500 worldwide. Berry had annual net sales of $4.8 billion in fiscal 2012.
