Girl Hurt by Hit-and-Run Driver in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Police in Lafayette say a 12-year-old girl suffered serious leg injuries when she was hit by a hit-and-run driver while she was out for Halloween trick-or-treating.
 
       The girl was hit arout 5:30 p.m. Thursday at an intersection south of the city's downtown. Police say she was crossing the street when she was hit. The girl was taken to a Lafayette hospital for treatment and was then flown to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
 
       Officer Jonathon Stanfield says that police have found the car believed to have hit the girl. No arrests were immediately made. The car had a shattered windshield after hitting the girl, who was alert as she was being helped at the scene.
