Pence Names Ex-Journalist, PR Executive Communications Chief

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A former journalist and veteran public relations executive has been named communications director for Gov. Mike Pence.

Shelley Triol will take over the role formerly held by Christy Denault, who resigned citing family reasons.

Triol has worked for WTHR-TV and WXIN-TV and has held communications roles at Purdue University and with the Indianapolis firm Sease, Gerig & Associates. She was hired by the Indiana Department of Administration last year.

Triol is the second new communications staffer to join the Pence team since two highly publicized public relations blunders involving the state's new religious objections law and plans for a state-run news site.

Pence's longtime congressional communications director, Matt Lloyd, took over last week as Pence's deputy chief of staff for communications and strategy.
