Cause and manner of death released for beaten Fort Wayne woman

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – The cause and manner of death have been released for the woman allegedly beaten by her son Wednesday.

Joy Steiss, 64 of Fort Wayne, died of strangulation, according to the Allen County Coroner. Her manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Joy was found fighting for her life in a home on Stanford Avenue earlier this week; she later died at a local hospital.

Her son, Jason Steiss, 34, allegedly admitted to police he attacked his mother by biting, hitting, punching and choking her.

Jason is set to appear in court on October 30 for an initial hearing.
