Congressman Messer Will Not Seek Coats’ Senate Seat

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  With the recent announcement that longtime Indiana Republican Senator Dan Coats will not seek re-election in 2016, several have expressed their interest in seeking the United States Senate seat. However, Indiana 6th District Congressman Luke Messer says that he is quite content where he is at in the political spectrum. “I will not be seeking the senate seat. I think a lot of my colleagues are taking a good hard look at it. I have got a young family, I was just elected into house leadership and I'm very proud to serve the people in Indiana,” Messer stated this morning. Messer also says that the open U.S. Senate seat will be a great opportunity for a lot of good people who will indeed seek the position in the Fall 2016 election.

Some of the notable interested candidates include Congressman Marlin Stutzman of Indiana's 3rd Congressional District, and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana's 2nd Congressional District.  Election Day is Tuesday, November 8th, 2016.
