FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A plan to build a gas station and convenience store in southeast Fort Wayne has been scrapped by its developer.

Kauffman LLC of Fort Wayne was planning on building the store at the corner of Hessen Cassel and East Paulding roads, but they have given up on the project after strong opposition from neighbors ever since it was announced.

The Journal Gazette reports the project would have expanded a former Wells Fargo bank, but people who lived in the area argued that it would end up being a nuisance. They also said they didn’t want, or need, another gas station.

One neighborhood activist says she’s still hoping for development there, but only if it’s something the whole neighborhood wants.
