DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A man recently involved in a DeKalb County crash says he looked at his cell phone before the collision.
At about 5:45 p.m., Thursday, officers with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office were called to a crash on U.S. 6 and County Road 24 in Waterloo. Once there, they learned that two vehicles were involved.
Police say, a Mercedes Benz, driven by Jonathon Wetzel, was preparing to make a left turn onto C.R. 24 from U.S. 6, when a vehicle, driven by Joseph Sarll, rear-ended the Mercedes. Sarll told police, prior to the collision, he looked down at his cell phone to read a text message. He said, when he looked up, the crash happened simultaneously.
Wetzel was taken to a nearby hospital for complaints of neck pain. Sarll was cited for reading a text message while driving.
