FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): East Allen County Schools will be launching an alternative school for elementary students.

That action was taken by the school board last night, according to the Journal Gazette, expanding a pilot program that was launched at Prince Chapman Academy to students in grades 2-6 that wouldn’t do as well in a traditional classroom setting.

Students can qualify for the program through a number of ways, not just behavioral issues, and will only be placed in the alternative school after interventions at their home schools fail. EACS will provide students transportation to the alternative school at Prince Chapman to and from their home school.

The program is set to start this fall.
