FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Seven people and their family pet were able to escape a basement fire in Fort Wayne Monday morning. 

The Fort Wayne Fire Department says the fire happened on the southeast side of Fort Wayne on Plaza Drive near East Pettit Avenue just before 6:30 AM. 

The fire was contained to the basement and crews were able to get the fire under control in about seven minutes. The home had minor fire, water, and smoke damage.
