Family Suing Over Southern Indiana Deck Collapse

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP): Many of the 24 family members who fell about 15 feet when a wooden deck collapsed have filed a lawsuit over the incident.

Authorities said seven people were taken to hospitals after the Dec. 22 collapse at a neighborhood clubhouse near New Albany. The family tells WAVE-TV that three of those injured still aren't walking as they recover.

Security camera video provided by the family shows the relatives gathering for a group photo when the deck's supports give way, spilling them to the concrete below.

Jeremy Wilt's wife and daughter were on the deck when it collapsed. He says the deck was bound to fall one day.

The company that built the deck says it is shielded from liability because the deck was more than 10 years old.
