Firefighters Tackle Two Fires

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It took crews seven minutes to bring a downtown apartment fire under control. Around 4:35 p.m. Saturday, crews were called to an apartment above the Brass Rail Tavern on Broadway. No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported. Firefighters say the fire did moderate smoke and fire damage. It remains under investigation. No word on the extent of damages to the tavern or antique store below.

Later fire did heavy damage to a home and destroyed a garage on the city's Northeast side late Saturday night. At 11:50 p.m. units were called to Willowhurst Drive near Reed Road.

Investigators say a car in the garage was also a total loss.  An adult and a child and their pets escaped safely. It took 23 minutes to bring he fire under control.
