Foot Chase Lands Elkhart Man in Jail

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A traffic stop Tuesday night leads to the arrest of 32-year-old Nicholas Compton, of Elkhart.

He was pulled over by Indiana State Police for disregarding a stop sign on As Road. As the officer attempted to determine the identity of Compton, he jumped out of his vehicle and ran into the woods.

Many other officers then responded to the scene in an effort to track Compton down. Police then received a phone call from a resident living on Edison Road. The homeowner stated that there was a man sitting on their porch that they didn’t know.

Officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department responded to the house and arrested Compton without incident.

He is facing charges of resisting arrest and providing a false identity. Compton was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
