Former House Speaker John Boehner to be honored by alma mater

CINCINNATI (AP): Former House Speaker John Boehner will be honored by his alma mater during Xavier University commencement ceremonies.

The school in Cincinnati says the 1977 business administration graduate will receive the Charles P. Gallagher Leadership Medallion Award for his servant leadership in government and public service and for exemplifying Xavier’s values and mission.

Boehner resigned from Congress last year after nearly 25 years in the U.S. House.

Retired Kroger Co. executive Lynn Marmer is the undergraduate commencement speaker Saturday morning. She is executive director of the Child Poverty Collaborative.

The Jesuit Catholic university says 709 undergraduate degrees will be conferred, followed by 323 graduate degrees.
