Former Illinois Legislator is Democrat’s Nominee for State Treasurer

INDIANA, (WOWO): A former Illinois legislator is the democrat’s nominee for Indiana State Treasurer.

Mike Boland calls himself a “Hoosier by choice.” He moved to Fishers to be near his grandchildren in 2012, two years after ending a 16-year Illinois House career with an unsuccessful bid for Lieutenant Governor.

He says he wants to move the state forward, in contrast to officeholders that he says have sought to do the opposite. He singles out incumbent Republican Treasurer Richard Mourdock for his unsuccessful bid to block the fast-tracked bankruptcy of Chrysler.

Boland says he’d seek to use the treasurer’s office in nontraditional ways beyond managing the state’s investments, such as recommending ways to trim government spending to free up money for other priorities.

Boland will be formally nominated at next week’s Democratic Convention.
