INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): This year marks 10 years since a tornado touched down not far from the Indianapolis 500.
The F2 twister hit within 10 miles of the track and damaged a nursing home, elementary school and numerous homes on Indy’s southeast side. It also delayed the race for hours and forced track officials to shorten it. Fans took to the grandstands for shelter.
Meanwhile, forecasters predict that Indianapolis will see no such threat at this year’s Indy 500. Sunday will be sunny with temperatures in the 80’s.
