FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — A former Roanoke man has been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of children, federal officials announced.
Cecil Spangler, 37, was sentenced on May 28, 2026, by Chief U.S. District Judge Holly A. Brady in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, according to U.S. Attorney Adam L. Mildred.
Spangler previously pleaded guilty to one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children. Judge Brady imposed a sentence of 720 months in prison, equivalent to 60 years, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release.
Federal prosecutors said restitution for victims will be determined and imposed at a later date.
The sentencing concludes a federal prosecution that resulted in one of the most severe penalties available for child exploitation offenses. Officials emphasized that the lengthy prison term and lifetime supervision reflect the seriousness of the crime and the ongoing commitment of law enforcement and prosecutors to protect children from exploitation.
Additional details regarding the investigation and restitution proceedings were not immediately released.
