Specialized Police Teams Respond To Mental Health Crisis At Fort Wayne Apartment

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — Fort Wayne police and specialized response teams were called to an apartment complex in the area of 5800 blk Bunt Dr Monday afternoon after reports of a woman throwing items from a second-story window and damaging property inside her residence.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:10 p.m. on June 1 after receiving a 911 call regarding an adult female who was reportedly throwing objects from an apartment window. Initial information led officers to believe the incident involved a possible mental health crisis.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard the woman actively breaking windows inside the apartment. Police said they made several attempts to communicate with her and requested that she leave the apartment, but she refused to comply.

As the situation continued, police supervisors requested additional resources. Members of the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team and Emergency Services Team responded to assist with the incident.

Authorities said negotiators have been working to establish communication with the woman while also consulting with an Allen County judge regarding a mental health evaluation order.

Police emphasized that their goal is to bring the situation to a safe and peaceful resolution.

The public is being asked to avoid the area while officers continue their response efforts. No injuries have been reported, and no additional details about the woman have been released.

The incident remains under investigation, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
