Fort Wayne Apartment Fire Forces Dozens to Relocate

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – One person has been hospitalized and about 40 people have been displaced following an apartment fire in Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne Fire Department spokeswoman Stacey Fleming says the injured person is in good condition with a smoke-related complaint following the fire Sunday morning at the Baldwin Creek Apartments.

The 24-unit apartment building where the fire occurred sustained heavy damage after the fire began about 8 a.m. The Red Cross was assisting the 40 people displaced by the fire.

Fleming says firefighters rescued several people from the balconies of their apartments.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
