FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The fight against the Zika virus now includes a Fort Wayne company.

Sanco Industries has been making a product called Mosquito Denial, which a report from the News-Sentinel says prevents mosquitoes from reproducing, including a type of mosquito known to be a transmitter of that virus, as well as those who carry West Nile, heartworm, and other maladies.

It works by changing the surface tension on water, so when female mosquitoes try to lay eggs on the water, they’ll sink and drown instead.

The company says they’re ramping up production in case the product, which is right now certified in Indiana and a few other states, needs to be deployed nationwide.
