FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne police officer is in serious condition in a hospital after she was in a crash Sunday afternoon while on duty.

Officer Sophia Rosales-Scatena, a crisis negotiator, is stable while she is awaiting surgery and has multiple fractures, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

She was driving to a home on Warsaw Street where an armed suspect reportedly barricaded himself after a domestic disturbance at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

When she was driving westbound on Jefferson Boulevard, a pickup truck struck the marked police car she was in.
