FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society is continuing to expand its historic railroad operations at its Pleasant Lake campus.

The organization recently acquired the historic Nickel Plate Road business car Kitchi Gammi Club. The 1923 car originally served as a first-class passenger car before being converted into a company business car in 1953.

The car is expected to join the society’s passenger fleet and operate on special excursions in Northeast Indiana later this year.

The society has also invested more than $400,000 in improvements at the Pleasant Lake railyard. The work includes restoration of the historic depot and construction of a new 1,500-foot siding.

The siding will give the organization additional space to store and service its growing collection of historic passenger equipment.

The Pleasant Lake depot was built in 1882 and is part of the Indiana Rail Experience, a partnership between the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and the Indiana Northeastern Railroad.

The program offers historic train excursions throughout Northeast Indiana, southern Michigan and northwest Ohio.
