JAMESTOWN, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne woman is in critical condition after nearly drowning in a Steuben County lake.

69 year old Sue Ellen Lester was swimming at Lakewood Park on Barton Lake a little after 5 PM Wednesday. 

She and her friend, 64 year old Darlene McCloud of Auburn, both walked over a steep drop in depth into deeper water. 

Lester, who has trouble swimming, struggled while McCloud held her up so she could get the occasional breath. Two fishermen eventually dove in to rescue her, according to authorities. 

Lester is recovering at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
