Freight Train Kills Woman in Blackford County

MONTPELIER, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a freight train has struck and killed a woman in eastern Indiana.

Blackford  County Coroner Todd Waters tells The Star Press the victim was a 29-year-old from Hartford  City. Her name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The  train struck and killed her about 8 a.m. Sunday at a crossing on State Route 18 in the town of Montpelier, about 35 miles south of Fort Wayne.

Waters  says members of an EMS crew heard the train's brakes locking and its  horn blaring at the crossing. He says police were checking to see if security cameras at a nearby convenience store might have recorded  anything related to the incident.
