LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – An Interstate 65 exit ramp north of Lafayette has reopened after it was closed for several hours when a tanker truck accidentally spilled 300 to 400 gallons of raw sewage.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Kim Riley says the excrement was 6 to 8 inches deep on parts of the ramp. Frigid weather then froze the sewage. Crews from the Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the White County Health Department cleaned the mess. They scraped the frozen waste off the road and into a dump truck.

It happened at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday and the ramp to Indiana 18 was reopened by 7:30 p.m.

Riley says police couldn't locate the truck.
