FWCS Superintendent Comments on Pence’s Order for ISTEP Test

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Superintendent of Fort Wayne Community Schools has responded to Pence's order to shorten the ISTEP+ Test.

Dr. Wendy Robinson told our partners in news at 21Alive, the first of the two-session ISTEP+ test session begins on Feb. 25th. The district is scrambling to make changes after receiving initial information about the test a few weeks ago.

The ISTEP+ test averaged at least 5 hours last year. This year, 3rd through 8th graders will take tests that range between 5 to 12 hours depending on the grade level.

Governor Pence says he's hiring an outside consultant to find ways to shorten the revamped statewide assessment test. However, Dr. Robinson says there are more problems with the ISTEP+ test than just length.

Indiana lawmakers are still considering a bill that would replace the test with a national level exam.
