FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A 23-member study panel looking at how Indiana should replace the ISTEP exam met for the first time Tuesday, and they’ve got a lot of work ahead of them.

Fort Wayne Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson is on the committee, and tells WOWO news the panel will need to consider the big picture:
“We need to not be shortsighted and just looking at a test to replace ISTEP. We need to look broader at the whole accountability system. We’re not interested in another test, with another name, that’s just as flawed as what we have right now.”
Robinson says the original intent of ISTEP was to provide information for educators and parents on planning the next steps of a child’s education, but state education officials seemed to lose their way over the years.
