Health Issue Studied in Fatal Indiana Car Plunge

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Northern Indiana authorities say a man might have suffered a health emergency before his car traveled off an overpass and plunged onto railroad tracks.

Police say 59-year-old Michael Strantz of South Bend died in the crash Sunday night in that city.

Deputy St. Joseph County Coroner Nancy Pemberton tells the South Bend Tribune that investigators have identified a medical issue as a likely factor in the crash, but she did not have more details about it

Investigators say Strantz' car was heading south on a city street when it took out a fence on the top of the bridge and then fell onto the tracks below.

A train was coming at the time, but the conductor was able to stop in time and call for help.
