MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) _ An official at a northwestern Indiana hospital where a man is being treated for a deadly virus from the Middle East says officials continue to closely monitor hospital employees who came into contact with that patient.
Preliminary test results show that no health workers or relatives who've had contact with the patient have tested positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS
But Community Hospital chief medical information officer Dr. Alan Kumar says officials are closely monitoring those individuals. The hospital has isolated 50 employees at home.
There is no known cure for MERS.
The Indiana patient is the first American citizen diagnosed with MERS. He flew from Saudi Arabia to Chicago on April 24 and took a bus to Indiana. He sought treatment last Monday.
