House Fire Causes Heavy Damage

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – A house fire on Fort Wayne’s southeast side caused heavy damage Saturday evening.

Firefighters were called to the 5200 block of Gaywood Drive around 6:30 after multiple reports of flames and heavy smoke.

Neighbors broke through a front window and carried a resident to safety before crews arrived. The resident was not hurt.

Firefighters battled flames in the rear of the home, roof, and attic, bringing the fire under control in just over 30 minutes.

The cause remains under investigation.
