INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) — Indiana flags are being lowered to half-staff in honor of country music legend and philanthropist Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday at the age of 80.
Governor Mike Braun ordered flags lowered at the Indiana State Capitol and all state facilities across Indiana. The order is effective immediately and will remain in place until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Parton was an internationally recognized singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist. She was known for hits including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” along with her extensive charitable work.
Her Dolly Parton Imagination Library has provided hundreds of millions of books to children around the world as part of an effort to promote early childhood literacy.
Braun’s order comes in addition to President Donald Trump’s directive for American flags to be flown at half-staff at the White House and federal buildings and grounds nationwide during the same period.
Braun is also encouraging Hoosiers to lower flags at their homes and businesses to honor Parton’s life and legacy.
