Indiana Man Gets 43 Years In Attempted Murder Case

PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) _ A southwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to 43 years in prison after pleading guilty in an attack that seriously injured Gibson County's former auditor.

Forty-three-year-old Alex B. Bise had pleaded guilty last month to attempted murder in the May attack on 67-year-old Anne D. Myers. The Oakland City man admitted beating Myers with a broomstick, cane and survival knife, seriously injuring her.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports (http://bit.ly/1rbfm5d ) Myers had given Bise a place to live and lent him support for two years during Bise's court-ordered substance abuse treatment program. She attended Wednesday's sentencing hearing, but did not offer a statement.

The Gibson Superior Court judge who sentenced Bise gave him a 43-year sentence after finding aggravating factors to enhance the standard 30-year term for the felony charge.
