INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (WOWO) After the arrest of five individuals connected to the shooting of a Tippecanoe County judge, the Indiana Supreme Court has appointed a special judge to oversee the case. Chief Justice Loretta Rush signed the order naming Cass County Superior Court 2 Judge Lisa Swaim to handle the proceedings.

The appointment comes after the administrative office of the Supreme Court received a formal request for a special judge in case 26S-SJ-20. Judicial rules prohibit the special judge from commenting publicly on the case, and the Supreme Court’s Office of Communication, Education, and Outreach (OCEO) will assist with media inquiries.

To ensure fair administration of justice and structured access for the press, Judge Swaim will issue a decorum order outlining procedural rules and media access. Case information will also remain available through Indiana’s online court system at mycase.in.gov.

Meanwhile, Tippecanoe Superior Court 2 will continue other cases with a senior or pro tempore judge handling day-to-day matters, approved under Supreme Court order 26S-MS-19.

The Supreme Court emphasized that these measures aim to maintain the integrity of the judicial process while providing accurate information to the public.
