Indy Boy Says People in Van Tried to Snatch Him

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): An eighth-grader says he escaped after three masked people in a van snatched him as he was walking to a Catholic school in an affluent Indianapolis neighborhood.

Immaculate Heart of Mary School on the city’s north side went on lockdown following the incident Tuesday. School officials asked students to walk in groups and stay on main routes.

Archdiocese of Indianapolis spokesman Greg Otolski says the boy told police he was about two blocks from school about 8 a.m. when three people wearing masks and gloves pulled him into a white van before he escaped. Otolski says the boy was “pretty shaken up.”

Otolski says other nearby schools were warned and police plan to patrol the school for a few days as a precaution.
