FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A 1-year-old girl is dead after she was hit by a car in her driveway.

The Fort Wayne Police Department received a call shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday about a child being hit at a home on Darrow Avenue, which is near South Side High School.

When first responders arrived, they found the child in critical condition in the driveway of her family’s home, according to a FWPD press release. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she died a short time later.

Police believe that her father accidentally hit her while backing out in a car that he was working on.

Police describe the incident as an “accident”, but say that they are still investigating it.
