Investigation underway after a FW vehicle crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): An investigation is underway after a vehicle crashed on Pontiac Street on Thursday.

A man drove through the Pontiac Street turnaround at Adams Street, damaging multiple traffic signs, and then struck a utility pole on the opposite side of Pontiac Street around 1:15 p.m.

The driver was pinned in the wreckage, but firefighters were able to free him. He was then rushed to a local hospital and was determined to be in critical condition. The driver was the only person injured in the crash.

Fort Wayne Police are uncertain at this time whether the driver suffered some sort of medical episode which caused the crash or whether drug and or alcohol is to blame.

Pontiac Street was closed to all traffic from the Pontiac Street turnaround west on Pontiac Street to Radcliffe Drive. American Electric Power will be working to replace the damaged pole and reconnect their aerial facilities.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
