MICHIGAN, (WOWO) — Michigan health officials are tracking a spike in Legionnaires’ disease, with 34 recent cases – including two suspected deaths at a Dearborn retirement home and two GM employees infected in Warren.

The bacteria spreads through contaminated water droplets and can cause deadly pneumonia, especially in vulnerable populations.

Bridge Michigan reports that experts say proper water system maintenance is key to preventing outbreaks.
