Man gets 120-year Sentence in Tire Iron Beating

GOSHEN, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana man has been sentenced to 120 years in prison for beating an 82-year-old man with a tire iron during a home invasion.

An Elkhart County judge ordered the sentence Thursday for 26-year-old Jeffery Hunt of Warsaw after he pleaded guilty in June to armed robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and other charges.

Hunt's father also pleaded guilty and received the same sentence in March.

The Goshen News and The Elkhart Truth report the men hid in Donald Neer's home in New Paris following a ruse last November and the younger Hunt hit Neer in the head with a tire iron, breaking vertebrae in his neck. Neer says he had to wear a neck brace for months.

Neer says he now carries a gun.
