Man Killed by Indiana Trooper Was Under Drug Investigation

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana State Police say the man fatally shot by a trooper at an Indianapolis apartment complex had been the subject of a drug investigation for less than two days.

The agency on Friday identified 29-year-old Brandon Foy of Indianapolis as the man killed in Thursday afternoon's gunfight. Police say Trooper Michael Wright is expected to make a full recovery from a gunshot wound to his left hand.

Police say Wright was among officers conducting undercover surveillance on Foy. Police say Wright approached Foy who pointed a handgun at the trooper and ran away, with shots being fired after they both jumped over a privacy fence.

Foy was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police Capt. David Bursten says it could take several weeks to complete a review of the shooting.
