Developer Surprised by Setback to Indiana Dunes Plan

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A politically connected developer is considering his next steps after being dealt a setback to his proposal for adding a fine-dining restaurant, a bar and a banquet hall to the Indiana Dunes State Park pavilion.

A Pavilion Partners spokeswoman says developer Chuck Williams was “somewhat surprised'' by a 3-1 vote by the Porter County Alcoholic Beverage Commission against issuing an alcohol license Thursday.

The board doesn't have the final say. The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission will take up the issue in the coming weeks and could issue the license.

Williams is a high-ranking state Republican Party official who has donated thousands to GOP causes. His plan has been approved by the state Department of Natural Resources, but has been opposed by environmentalists.
