Man Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash In Pleasant Township

PLEASANT TWP., Ohio. (WOWO) — A 33-year-old man was killed Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Pleasant Township, Van Wert County.

The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred at approximately 10:31 a.m. on Marsh Road near U.S. Route 224. A 2007 Ford Focus, driven by Jarett Catlin of Scott, was traveling northbound when the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway.

Investigators say the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to slide across the center line before leaving the roadway on the right side and striking a utility pole.

Catlin suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol impairment is believed to be a contributing factor.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Van Wert Police Department, Van Wert County Coroner’s Office, Van Wert EMS and Fire Department, Van Wert County EMA, CERT, Gideon’s Towing, and AEP Power. The crash remains under investigation.
