Man Killed when Stuck Pickup Truck Hit by Train

HILLSDALE, Ind. (AP) _ A man was killed when police say his pickup truck became stuck at a rural western Indiana railroad crossing and was hit by a train.

The Vermillion County sheriff says 74-year-old William Gilbert died from injuries he suffered in the Thursday night crash near the community of Hillsdale, about 25 miles north of Terre Haute.

Sheriff Bob Spence tells the Tribune-Star that Gilbert was driving across a narrow railroad crossing when the driver's side went off the road, causing the truck to get hung up on the tracks as the train approached.

Spence says Gilbert climbed from the truck but wasn't able to get away before the collision.
