Man Killed While Walking on C. Indiana Highway

AVON, Ind. (AP): Police say a man was struck and killed while walking along a main highway in an Indianapolis suburb.

Avon police say the 36-year-old man was hit late Wednesday while apparently walking in a stretch of U.S. 36 lined with shopping plazas and retail businesses just west of Indianapolis. Police were called about a man lying on the ground in the snow and ice.

Detective Brian Nugent says the driver who is believed to have hit the man left the scene, but told police he returned after spotting damage to his SUV and backtracking to determine what he had hit.

Nugent said police were still investigating the circumstances.
