MARION, Ind. (WOWO) – A Marion man is injured after his handgun accidentally went off and shot him in the genitals.

The Marion Police Department responded to the incident around 6:45 a.m. Thursday. Our partners in news at ABC 21 report police were called to the walkway near the Girl Scout Cabin in Marion.

Police report the man was walking when his Hi Point 9 mm handgun, that was placed in his waistband without a holster, began to slip. He reached down to adjust the gun when it discharged.

The bullet entered him just above his penis and exited his scrotum.

Police report the man did not have a license to carry in Indiana, and the incident is still being investigated.
