Memorial Services Monday for Fallen Merrillville Officer

MERILLVILLE, Ind. (WOWO): The funeral for a 24-year-old police officer who was mortally wounded while answering a call will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in one of Lake County‘s most public venues.

Merrillville Police Officer Nick Schultz‘s funeral is to be held in the Star Plaza Theatre — just off I-65 and a few blocks from Merrillville Police Headquarters.

Schultz was taken off life-support September 7th, two days after he was shot in the head by a man who‘d been evicted from his condo. His death is the Merrillville Police Department‘s first officer on-duty fatality.

Tributes this past week to Officer Schultz included a local motorcycle club‘s “Rose Ride,” which is the club’s traditional way of honoring police officers and firefighters who die in the line of duty.
