Mercer County Man Arrested in Darke County Hit-and-Run

GREENVILLE, OH (WOWO) A Mercer County man has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run crash Sunday night in Darke County.

Deputies responded just before 9 p.m. to the 13000 block of Yorkshire-Osgood Road on a report of a person lying in the roadway, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office. Osgood Fire, Osgood Rescue and the Darke County Coroner’s Office also responded.

Investigators say a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 34-year-old Jacob Giere of Maria Stein was traveling northbound when it struck an adult woman in the roadway. Authorities say Giere did not stop and left the scene following the collision.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene according to WLIO.

Deputies later made contact with Giere and took him into custody for leaving the scene of an accident. The crash remains under investigation.
