New Haven Acquiring Property To Be Used for Community Center

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WOWO): It's been over 20 years in the making, but the City of New Haven is finally getting a new community center.

The city is acquiring the former Marine Corps. League building on State Route 930 just west of Minnich Road, with much of the value of the building being donated to the city by the property owners.

It's welcome news for New Haven/Adams Township Park Director Mike Clendenen. “Right now, we conduct our fitness classes at our current park office, where seniors play cards and we have a senior lunch in that same room, so we'll be able to multi-purpose that and expand those uses (at the new building).”

Clendenen says the park offices will likely be moved there before the end of the year, with renovations complete in 2016.

The city hopes to bond out for the remaining cost of the building, along with renovations.
