AUBURN, IND. (WOWO) Authorities are investigating a rollover crash on Interstate 69 in DeKalb County that may be connected to earlier reports of reckless driving, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Dispatchers first received a complaint around 7:39 a.m. about a vehicle traveling northbound near the 326-mile marker.

Just minutes later, a second call reported a crash near the 330-mile marker. Deputies and Indiana State Police troopers arrived to find a 57-year-old New Haven woman, Elizabeth Hughes, in the driver’s seat of a Ford Fusion, in and out of consciousness.

Investigators say Hughes’ vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck driven by 67-year-old Daniel Staelens of Jerome, Michigan, before leaving the roadway, striking a cable barrier, and rolling over. Hughes was taken to a hospital for treatment and was later found to have minor cuts and bruises. Staelens was not injured, and the semi was able to be driven from the scene.

Authorities say the crash remains under investigation, including pending chemical testing for both drivers.
