New Sewage Treatment Plans for Huntertown

HUNTERTOWN, Ind. (WOWO):  A Huntertown sewage treatment plant has approved discharging 1.5 million gallons of treated waste water at their future facility off Hathaway Road.

The $14.2 million facility will be built on the 2200 block of Hathaway Road and has been debated by the Town Council and State Department of Environmental Management.

According to the Journal Gazete, IDEM shut down the city's first application to build the facility three years ago due to pollution. Tighter pollution standards have allowed the city to move forward with the plans.

The treated waste water will be pumped along Hathaway Rd. into to Eel River Township. It's will then be discharged upstream into the Eel River and Geller Ditch.

Residents can request a public hearing on the issue before February 2nd. To request a public hearing, residents can email lvoss@idem.in.gov or call 317-232-8698.
