ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) _ A judge has entered a not-guilty plea for a suspended central Indiana police officer charged with causing a crash that killed a man and injured his pregnant wife.
Edgewood Officer James Foutch declined to comment to The Herald Bulletin and Indianapolis television stations as he left the Madison County Courthouse following his initial hearing Monday.
Authorities say Foutch was off duty and under the influence of an anti-anxiety drug and a painkiller when his SUV going about 90 mph plowed into a car April 6 on Indiana 32 west of Anderson.
That crash killed 23-year-old Jesse Sperry. Twenty-two-year-old Rebecca Sperry gave birth to a daughter by emergency C-section that day at an Indianapolis hospital. Both are now home.
Foutch faces driving while intoxicated causing death and other charges.
