On Duty Officer Dies In Crash

TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO):  An on-duty officer responding to a call has died after a crash. 

Around 9:50 p.m. Saturday night, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Tipton County Sheriff's Department were responding to a single vehicle crash on Tipton County Road 300 West near County Road 300 South.  31 year old Deputy Jacob D. Calvin of Kempton, Indiana, a two and a half year veteran of the Tipton County Sheriff's Department was driving his police car at a high rate of speed, and for an unknown reason traveled off the east side of the road and rolled multiple times.  Calvin was ejected from this Chevrolet Impala police car.  

At the time of the crash, Deputy Calvin did have his emergency lights and siren activated in route to an injury crash on State Road 28 and Tipton County Road 500 West.  

Calvin was transported to the Indiana University Tipton Hospital where he later died.
